Curriculum Vitae:
Sergej Bechtoldt earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in economics at the University of Hamburg. During his studies, he completed internships at IZA in Bonn, DIW Berlin and semesters abroad at Charles University in Prague and the University of Latvia in Riga.
Sergej has been a student at the Ruhr Graduate School in Economics since October 2018 and has been working at the Chair of Health Economics at the University of Duisburg-Essen since October 2019. He has been visiting the University of Barcelona as a guest researcher since February 2025.
In his research, Sergej Bechtoldt focusses on the following research areas:
- Effects of economic recessions on health
- Changes in relationship between socio-economic status and mortality over time
- Alcohol policies and alcohol consumption
Fields of Research:
Sergej is interested in applied microeconometrics and research questions related to health. He gained experience in the fields of health and labor economics.
