Description:
The course targets mainly doctoral students and advanced master's students with a interest in research and health economics. The course consists of an introductory lesson and weekly lectures, where the guest lecturer will present his specific field of research. The application of econometrical methods and models in the context of health economics is one major aspect of the lectures. Participants elaborate the context in term papers and excercises.
The specific content depends on the current guest professor, see the homepage of the chair of Health Economics. In SoSe24 Prof. Dr. Makym Obrizan from the Kyiv School of Economics.
If you interested in the course, please contact Diem Hoang Xuan.
For students: The module consists of a graded term paper (Seminararbeit), assignments and presentations.
Learning Targets:
In this empirical course we will review a toolbox of various methods in applied health economic research. We will start from reviewing various sources of health data, learn to describe the data, apply various echniques of modeling categorical data, duration data, panel data, count data. In addition, we will briefly review Bayesian approach and BI instruments capable of getting quick insights from large datasets in health. The course will be ’lab-style’ - each topic will be supplemented by empirical exercises in Stata. In addition to lecture notes students will get working codes and datasets to practice.
Methods of Assessment:
Seminararbeit
Formalities:
Recommended knowledge:
- Very good skills about econometriy theory and application
- Very good skills in working with health economic research questions
